🚂 THE PLATFORM

Hurricane Isaias is headed for the Panhandle, not us, and Manatee isn't under any watch or warning as of Thursday morning; keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center anyway.

What we do get is the wet edge of it.

The Weather Service has storms at 80 percent Friday, 60 Saturday, 50 Sunday.

So this weekend's plan has a roof on it.

🚗 FAMILY FIELD TRIP

Saturday under a roof: Old Main omelets, rescued manatees, and pizza across the street

Downtown Bradenton, about 25 minutes, and almost every minute of it is indoors.

Leave the driveway by 8:30.

Start (about 25 min): Robin's Downtown Cafe, 428 12th St W, on Old Main Street.

Opens at 7; Saturday closing is listed anywhere from 1:30 to 2, so this is a morning stop, not a lunch stop.

The omelets are folded thin, crepe-style, and that's the reason to drive past four chains to get here.

Out the door by 9:45.

The Activity (a few blocks): The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, 201 10th St W.

Opens at 10 Saturday, noon Sunday, closed Mondays.

Adults $25, kids 5 to 17 are $16, and 4 and under get in free with a paying adult.

Buy online before you leave; the museum says no tax or fees on the website.

One ticket covers the galleries, the planetarium, the Mosaic Backyard Universe and the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat.

Go to the manatees first.

They're rescued animals healing up for release, and your kids will stand at that glass a lot longer than you planned.

Then turn the climbers loose in the Backyard Universe; there's a treehouse in there.

The live sky show, Eyes on the Sky, runs Friday and Saturday at 2:30, 35 minutes, ages 6 and up.

Doors lock at showtime and there's no late entry, so be seated by 2:20 or don't bother.

Honesty box: free street parking out front on 10th St W, three-hour limit; the garage at 3rd Ave and 10th St W is the backup.

Restrooms throughout, an elevator, and no food or drinks inside (water is fine).

Lunch (walk back to Old Main): Fav's Italian Cucina, 419 12th St W, practically across the street from where you had breakfast.

Open 11 to 8, Monday through Saturday.

Closed Sunday, which is why this is a Saturday plan.

Fav's is short for Favasuli, the family that runs it, and the daily specials go up on their Facebook page.

Our take: a pizza for the kids, the homemade lasagna for whoever's driving home.

Want the 2:30 sky show?

Flip it: Fav's at 11, the museum at noon, planetarium at 2:30.

Treat (about 5 min): Corwin's Ice Cream and Smoothies, 1000 Barcarrota Ave, at the Riverwalk gateway.

Homemade ice cream, open 11 to 10 Friday and Saturday.

The seating is open-air under a canopy, so look at the sky before you promise anybody a cone.

Omelets by 9, manatees by 10, lasagna by 1.

Let it pour.

🗓️ THIS WEEKEND

Families browse tables of secondhand household goods at a community-wide yard sale in a Florida neighborhood after morning rain.

Friday's quiet this week, and at 80 percent for storms, that's fine by us.

Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. — the Canoe Creek community yard sale

The Canoe Creek Annual Community Yard Sale runs 8 to 1 inside the neighborhood, 13437 Old Creek Ct, Parrish, about 10 minutes.

Gates open at 7:30 for the early birds.

Coffee, lemonade and sweet-treat trucks are on site.

No rain date is posted, so get there at 7:30 and take your chances with the sky; the good stuff is gone by 9 anyway.

Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Dakin Dairy's Harvest Festival

The Dakin Dairy Harvest Festival opens its first weekend at 30771 Betts Rd, Myakka City, about 40 minutes.

Moo train, corn maze, a hayride out to feed the Holsteins, calf cuddling, and a pumpkin cannon your kid gets to fire.

Milkshakes from the farm's own Moofè at the end.

The farm's page doesn't post the admission price, so we're not printing a guess; check before you drive.

It's all outdoors, so Sunday at 50 percent is the better of the two days; it runs again Oct 17-18 and 24-25 if this weekend washes out.

Saturday, 3 to 4 p.m. — live reptiles at Rocky Bluff Library

Wonderful World of Reptiles brings Cosmic Reptiles and their animals to the Rocky Bluff Branch Library in Ellenton, about 10 minutes.

It's aimed at tweens and teens, 8 to 18.

Registration is required, so sign up from the link before your 11-year-old asks why you didn't.

Indoors, free of weather, and over before supper.

🏈 THE SIDELINE

Nov 1: the i9 winter early rate is three weeks out

i9 Sports Manatee has winter 2027 registration open: flag football (co-ed and girls), soccer (co-ed and girls) and instructional baseball.

Seven Saturdays, Jan 9 to Feb 20.

It's $198 if you pay by Nov 1, per their live page this week, jersey included.

No tryouts, no draft, everybody plays.

Buffalo Creek Little League hasn't posted spring 2027 dates yet; if that's your plan, call (830) 556-1805 and get on the list early, because their seasons fill.

Friday, 7:30 p.m. — the Bulls are on the road at Sumner

Parrish Community varsity football plays at Sumner High in Riverview, about 30 minutes up I-75.

Tickets are on GoFan; the price isn't showing on the listing, so we're not printing one.

Friday is 80 percent for storms, and lightning delays are a real possibility, so check before you leave.

Next home game is Friday, Oct 16, against IMG Academy.

Saturday rain: the i9 weather line

Fall i9 games run on Saturdays through Nov 7.

Before you load the car in the rain, call the weather hotline at 941-260-4444, ext. 4.

🍽️ WHERE TO EAT

Butterfields, on 301 — Sunday breakfast without crossing the river

Butterfields Family Restaurant, 8205 US-301, Parrish, about 5 minutes.

Open 7 to 2 every day except Tuesday, per their own site.

Saturday you went south; Sunday you stay home and let somebody else make the hash browns.

It's an old-school diner menu: two- and three-egg omelets, skillets, waffles, crepes, and lunch if you sleep in.

Our take: order the homemade corned beef hash.

A diner that bothers to make its own hash is telling you something about the rest of the kitchen.

Not on a Tuesday, though; that's the one day they're dark.

(941) 776-0762.

Reply and tell us your Butterfields order; first names only if we print it.
